Does Long Term Use Of Neupro Cause Insomnia?

I have been using neupro Transderm Patch (2 mg) for about 2 years for restless legs. This week I have had 3 nights where I did not sleep at all. I contacted my dr and they sent me 10 mg of sonata. It worked the first night but did not work the 2nd time I took it. However I felt like I could sleep without it and took 5 mg of melatonin. After not going to sleep in 2 hours, I took the Sonata but no sleep came. Any suggestions on what I can do to get a good night sleep. Can Neupro cause insomnia after having taken it for so long.

Hello,

Neupro is a Rotigotine & it does cause troubled sleep. It can cause insomnia, do not drive or do other activities until you have reported it to your treating doctor. The medicine can be substituted with some other medication that suits you better or the dose can be reduced.

1. For better sleep, avoid oily food & eat whatever you want to at least 6 hours before going to bed.
2. Avoid addictions if any. Stop taking Caffeine.
3. Stay busy during daytime & increase bright light exposure.
4. Avoid internet at least 2 hours before you go to bed.
5. Ginkgo Biloba helps to relax & get sleep. Stay away from the stress of any kind.
6. Keep your bed room comfortable, keep it dim lighted, airy, fragrant. Maintain optimum temperature.
7. Take a relaxing shower before going to bed. Exercise regularly & switch to a healthy lifestyle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
