Does Intake Of Contraceptive Pill Post Unprotected Sex Prevent Pregnancy?

Hi sir I have a doubt I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend yesterday although I pulled out just before ejacuation but just to be sure I gave her the unwanted 72 contraceptive pill within half an hour of the intercourse. Apart from slight cramps in stomach last night she has show no signs of any other side effects of unwanted 72. should we be worried? is there a chance of her getting preganent and when can we take a home preganancy test p.s. she has irregular period cycle for quite a time

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Unwanted 72 is an emergency contraceptive pill. When taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, it would help to prevent pregnancy. Earlier it is taken, the protection seems to be better.
Since you have not ejaculated inside her and she has taken the pill by 30 minutes, you need not worry about pregnancy as the chances of getting pregnant seems to be very less.
The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of intake of the pills. In case it doesn't happen by 3 weeks, you can take a urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention immediately.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
