Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Intake Of Casodex And Lupron Shots Help In Treating Prostate Cancer?
I am a 76 year old male that has been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. I had a gleason score of 9 and the whole body bone scan showed that the cancer had metastized to my bones. Some in my pelvis and also in my spine. The treatment has been to use casovex for 2 weeks, a Lupron shot monthly after that and casovex for 2 weeks following the 1st Lupron shot. I am also scheduled to begin chemo therapy at the end of this month. Does this appear logical to you or should I get a second opinion?
Casudex (bicalutamide) should be initiated at least 3 days before Lupron (leuprolide) shot in advanced prostate cancer with metastasis. It is also continued after Lupron is administered. In your case, casudex is started 2 weeks before and also continued for 2 weeks after Lupron short which appears logical. Please adhere to the prescribed regimen of drugs as prescribed by your oncologist for optimum outcomes. Hope this helps. Thanks.
