Does Increased Use Of Coffee Cause Gas Movements In The Torso And Head?

recently started belching at the bottom of my rib cage. this sensation carries across (as a jerking) motion to my right side then to my ear level on both sides. Could this be caused by an increase in coffee use and recent ear problems or some other problem.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Coffee may stimulate the bowel and cause food to move faster as it may increase the transit in the bowel. The patients may experience increased gas due to that. I am not sure what exactly you mean with gas in the head but if you mean burping, this also may happen as coffee releases the esophageal sphincter and worsens the reflux of stomach content into the esophagus.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
