Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My TSH was currently 39.79 they added cytomel 50 mcg to my 50 mcg of levothyroxine. Could this have anything to do with my diarrhea that happens less than 10 mins after I eat anything?. The stool also smells almost like a perm for a hair salon. I also have a lot of gas with it.
Cytomel can cause diarrhea as it's side effect. Your diarrhea is associated with eating food and the stool also smells bad. So, it might be due to the following like: 1) Amoebic dysentery 2) E.coli infection 3) irritable bowel syndrome 4) Inflammatory bowel disease
My recommendations are as follows: 1) Take plenty of fluids 2) As there is loss of water and electrolytes, take more oral rehydration solution or water with salt and sugar. 3) Take tab. Oflox Oz containing Ofloxacin and Ornidazole twice daily for 5 days. 4) Take tab. Redotil 100mg till diarrhea is controlled. 5) Also, take probiotics for at least 2 weeks. 6) Once report to your prescribing physician about diarrhea so that he will adjust the dose of Cytomel or add any alternative.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
