Does Goat Milk Based Formula Cause Anemia In An Infant?

Hello! I have a question about goat milk based formula. My daughter is 6.5 mo and might have an intolerance to cow s milk. Her pediatrician recommended to give her either Nutramigen or alimentum. I don t want to give her those formulas because she has been eating only organic one. The brand that I use has a goat milk based formula that I would like to try, but my daughter s doc said that it can cause anemia. This formula is fortified with folic acid (136 micrograms), iron (8 mg) and vitamin B12 (1.4 micrograms) though. How can it cause anemia then? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Goat milk is very preferable in young babies because it is more similar to human milk.

Knowing that it is fortified with iron and folic acid makes it more suitable for babies.

You can safely give it to her.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
