Does Consumption Of Caffeine Cause High BP And Heart Palpitations?

I have HB and am taking Clonidine patch 0.1 mg. applied once a week. I also take Amlodipine 2.5 twice daily. It makes me tired and weak and palpitations. I have a skipped heart beat but doesn t seem to be of a concern to my Dr. I have always stayed caffein free, but on Labor day I drank 2 large glasses of sweet tea and it really gave me energy and I felt good. The next day my BP spiked up to 225/110 and I went to the emergency room with my heart racing. The ER doctor gave me something to just calm me down but no HP medicine and it worked. Do you think the caffein I had the day before could have caused this. I never had skipped heart beat until I was put on BP meds. I appreciate anything you could tell me.

Caffeine can cause a short, but dramatic increase in your blood pressure, even if you don't have high blood pressure.

Caffeine could block a hormone that helps keep your artery widened.

So, in my opinion, your symptoms are related to caffeine and you should avoid it.
