Does Chlamydia Stay Dormant In The Body?

Hi, I had Chlamydia almost 5 years ago. I found out I had Chlamydia when I first started to date my current boyfriend. I was treated, I don t think he was. Since we are monogamous we don t use protection. We both have not had any symptoms for almost 5 years and now he started to have symptoms. I still have no symptoms. He said he tested negative (he tested negative 5 years ago also). I just got tested (still waiting for results). My question is: How likely is it that it was dormant in him for 5 years and now he is showing symptoms- and still testing negative? or should I question his fidelity? I know I didn t cheat.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After finishing the first therapy, 3 months later you should have rechecked if you had any more infection. Your partner should had taken a course of treatment too because it is a sexually transmitted disease.Chlamydia is present even you may have no symptoms at all. The best thing to do is to take another test for chlamydia and be treated both of you and rechecked in 3 months again.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
