Does Arthroscopic Surgery Help To Repair Torn Medial Meniscus?
I have a medial torn meniscus and it is a small tear. My doctor says I can heal it with therapy, stretching and icing and rest which I am doing right now. My question is would arthroscopic surgery be the answer and a quicker fix. I am off of work now and have been off for 2 weeks and it still hurts me when walk too much.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
The decision to have arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus often depends on the size and location of the tear, as well as the symptoms and functional limitations it is causing. Smaller tears in the outer portion of the meniscus (the "white zone") are more likely to respond to conservative treatment such as physical therapy, stretching, icing, and rest.
However, if your symptoms persist despite these measures and significantly impact your daily activities, arthroscopic surgery may be considered an option. It's best to discuss the pros and cons of surgery with your doctor and consider your personal goals and priorities in making a decision.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
