Does A Slightly Swollen Nose Without Pain Or Bleeding Need Medical Attention?

My grandson is 6 years old, was playing outside during recess at school, fell and hit the side of a bench. His nose is still a bit swollen in the upper, right hand side of the bridge; closer to the eye than to nostrils. Since the swelling has not gone down, my daughter would like to wait a bit to take him to the doctor based on what she has read online. He states there is no pain and it is not bleeding. Should he be taken asap or wait until the swelling goes down? Thank you, Evelyn

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If he has no problem with eye swelling or eye movements and his vision is good he can just be watched. If the nose is not painful and not bleeding it is unlikely he has broken the nose so no need to see a doctor. Local cold compresses will help reduce the swelling.

If the swelling gets worse of he develops any new symptoms or there is any worsening he needs to see a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
