Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does A Nuclear Medicine Bone Scan Help In Detecting The Cause For Back Pain?
I suffer from chronic lower back pain caused (in part) by severe scoliosis, arthritis, and other degenerative issues in my spinal column... and deemed by Barrow Neurological here in Phoenix to be inoperative due to my age (75) and the risk factor. I have undergone several years of lower back injections (steroid and RF ablation ) with little effect in controlling my pain. My question: can a NM bone scan better pinpoint the pain area(s) such that lower back injections could be more effective in controlling my pain?
A bone scan may use to diagnose unexplained bone pain. Uses are arthritis, avascular necrosis or bone cancers or Paget's disease or fibrous dysplasia or fractures or if the bone etc.
So please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you according to the report.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
