Does A Baker S Cyst Reoccur After It Has Been Ruptured?

I have a Baker’s Cyst that ruptured and caused fluid & blood to collect under my knee. I was seen by a doctor three weeks ago and was told to do the leg elevation, compression, icing & resting, as I was told to do, to reduce the swelling & allow the body to “reabsorb “ all the blood & fluid. So, the swelling has gone down a lot, but there is still a small hard lump, which I’m hoping will be “reabsorbed” as well. All that to ask whether these cysts usually come back after they have ruptured or will it possibly just go away & never come back? I do have a torn meniscus & some arthritis in the same knee. Sorry so long!

Hi,

Bakers cyst can recur very rarely, and in that case, MRI knee is advised to find out the cause of Baker cyst, which is like a collection of fluid from damaged cartilage.

However, the chances of recurrences are rare and occur when their underlying joint pathology is not adequately treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
