Does Seroquel Interact With Aricept?

My mom is 81 and is in the hospital. She is suffering from delirium. She had pneumonia and pleural effusion back in August and was in ICU. They released her to a nursing home for rehab, but she never fully recovered from the delirium she had in ICU. Now, she is back in the hospital with a tube to drain an abdominal abscess. She is on high powered antibiotics and at the nursing home and at the hospital, she has been administered serequel (not sure of spelling). Now they want to start giving her aricept to slow the progress of any underlying dementia. Are there any interactions between these medications?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Medications like Seroquel may reduce the effectiveness of Aricept.

Patients with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia may experience side effects such as drowsiness, confusion, and mental impairment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
