Does Ritalin Cause Abnormal Behaviour In A Child?

my son is 9yrs. old and is takin ritalin5mg and intuniv er 1mg. three times a day for about 8-9 months.His behavior is very different and not in a good way.Zach is very emotional,uncontrollable talking,bed wetting,want mind anything he is ask to,makes up very unbelievable stories,very scared of been taken by someone,very scared of being alone doesn t want me out of his sight.School has been a nitemare,just 2 wks ago i started homeschooling him which is very hard on me with his behavior.Zach is my grandson but i have had full custody since he was 5.He calls me mom and in my heart he is my son.He was mentaly abused by his birth mother and stapfather and physically abused.I have had him in therapy since i have had him.His birth mother had him put on medication at age 5 right before i got him.We recently started seeing a Dr. who prescribed these 2 medications,she has never done any testing or blood work on him.It seems his behavior and attitude have changed drastically,worsening.He is a very smart,inteligent,loving child.He often cries and apologizes for his behavior and says he doesn t know why he does it.I truley believe him.i am lost and don t know which way to turn or go for my son.I feel in my heart that this medication is hurting instead of helping him.Any advice is greatly appreciared

hi mam/sir,your observation is right.retalin has got abnormal behaviour like severe agitation,hallucinations,mood swings as its side effects.even intuniv can cause an agitated behaviour.actually your kid is not at fault.his condition is so.please be patient and kindly report these symptoms to the doctor who had prescribed those medicines.one more important thing is kindly contact a clinical child psychologist so that your kid can undergo behavioural therapy.many of kids with similar symptoms in my hospital had improved dramatically with counselling sessions by psychologist.so please make it as soon as possible.i assure you that he would regain his original pleasing and caring personality with treatment.those medicines are not to be stopped abruptly.so go for psychiatrist consultation.any further queries,i'm happy to help with pleasure.thank you.take care.bye.
