Does Opdivo Decrease The Chances Of Recurrent Melanoma?

I have been fighting stage 3c melanoma. My last surgery removed all lymph nodes in my left groin. I am now cancer free. It was recommended I do a pro active plan using opdivo. I m 56 female and have no other health issues. Was given 35 to50 percent for cancer to return within 5 years. Using this drug may improve my odds by only 10 percent. Your thoughts ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Opdivo is having Nivolumab. It is very effective in metastatic melanoma. It has been shown to improve prognosis, decrease recurrence and relapse. So you should definitely start this newer monoclonal antibody. In my personal opinion, combination of ipilimumab and Opdivo show excellent results in terms of relapse. So better to discuss about this combination with your oncologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
