Does Metformin Cause Weight Loss, Joint Ache And Fatigue?

Hi, I am a 68 year old female, retired since December 2016. I have been taking Metformin for Type II Diabetes for Approx. 10 years, doctor prescribed. Two pill am and two pills pm. Over a period of 6 months, I have lost 55 pounds, aches and pains in joints, feeling tired, loss of balance, pain in right groin and lower back. Could it be the metformin A1C 7.1 to 7.5.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic,
I understand your concern. Reading carefully I understood that you lost 55 pound s for around 6 months. Normally Metformin does not cause weight loss in this numbers. It can help in losing weight because it lower appetite, and it is long term effect. So I don't believe that your weight loss came from Metformin. Also joint ache are not Metformin side effects. If you permit, I will suggest you to have a visit in your family doctor and make some analysis looking carefully for something else.
I wish my answer was helpful to you!
Best Regards
Dr Eniola
