Does Lasix Cause Extreme Elevation In BP Levels?

I am a 62 year old patient, normally prehypertensive. Finished Chemo of Abraxane and Gemzar three weeks ago. Currently only on Zantac and started Lasix this morning (40 mg). Have headache and blood pressure yesterday was 160/93 and 167/90. This evening pressure was 183/96 and 189/97. Is this critical requiring emergency treatment?

Hello,

Lasix is diuretics, so it lowers blood pressure, rather than elevating them. Do you have any symptoms with current elevated BP?

Your latest reported blood pressure with 180's/high 90's do not require any emergency treatment as long as you have no current symptoms such as chest pain, changes in vision, dizziness, headache, nausea/vomiting or shortness of breath.

Since they have been running a higher range, I advise you to follow up with your doctor to repeat BP at the clinic setting and discuss further.
