Does Glucophage Cause Flu Like Symptoms?

I started using glucophage XR a week ago, and started experiencing chills and a slightly flu-like feeling about 4 days later, with it now having continued for 3 days already, and with paracetamol bringing relief. What should I do now? Stop using glucophage XR for a period of time?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, metformin group medications as Glucophage do present with variety of side effects and flu like symptoms with upper respiratory viral infection, myalgia, fever, chills are very common ones. Stop taking further doses of the Glucophage and report the issue to office of your doc for further guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
