Does Effexor Cause Burning Sensation On The Tongue?

Hello, my name is Bonnie and my doctor put me on Effexor for anxiety and hot flashes. I have read all the side affects and i dont see tongue sores. I seem to have developed them when i eat now. It feels like my tongue is burning. Is this normal being on Effexor? Thank you for your advice, Bonnie

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Effexor that contains active ingredient Venlafaxine does not have a direct side effect of causing burning sensation over tongue but it can cause an indirect side effect of burning sensation of tongue due to causing dry mouth and inflammation in mouth.
I would suggest you to consult your Physician and get evaluated and if you have side effects of the medication then the dose can be reduced or the medicine will be changed.
For relieving the symptoms of burning you should avoid taking spicy foods and along with it you can apply Lidocaine gel over the tongue a few minutes before your meals to avoid burning..
Also drink plenty of water and chew sugar free chewing gum to prevent dryness.
If the tongue burns otherwise also then sucking ice or rinsing with cool water can help..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
