Does Atorvastatin Cause Low Cholesterol And High SGPT Level?

last November 22 2016. taken with blood chemistry test result : cholesterol=8.0 mmol/L sgpt= 107 U/L normal value is 40 U/L doctor advise me to take atorvastatin 40mg (ritemed brand) 1 tab before bed time and livolin forte 1cap tid... after 15 days taking medicines i check if livolin forte work i got 69 sgpt.. im happy cuz the livolin work.. after 1 month of medication of livolin and atorvastatin 40mg, i checked again blood test .. cholesterol=6.7 mmol/Lb ,sgpt= 155 U/L im so worried why only only 1.3 cholesterol decreased and my sgpt elevated high agin.. mybe due to atovastatin? my doctor change my atovastatin to natrapharm brand \.. pls advise why my sgpt elevated ..

Hello,

I was reviewing your case and noted SGPT was already high even when you first started atorvastatin. So, that is not the primary cause.

To me, your liver might be a bit fatty, you need to take strong antioxidants like silimarin and vit. E to help your liver clear up.

Next, as the enzymes are getting higher although cholesterol is reduced, then, atorvastatin might have caused aggravation of liver damage. Yes, it can cause this side effect.

However, if I was your caring doctor would highly recommend to run hepatitis testing first to rule out possible infectious hepatitis (HbsAg, anti-HCV). Discuss this further with your caring doctor.
