Does Atorvastatin Cause An Extra Heart Beat In Between The Rhythm?
During a recent exam my Dr. detected an extra beat and recommended a echo stress test. I was told that I had a good test on the treadmill but he was unable to see a cause for the irregularity. I am now scheduled for nebular test for a better view. I had a rt. coronary artery stent placed 17 years ago. I have no pain or symptoms, do not smoke or drink alcohol and I exercise regularly. I drink coffee in the a.m. and I take a 20mg. atorvastatin daily. Could the med. or coffee cause the extra beat?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... No Atorvastatin does not cause an extra heart beat in between the rhythm. EXcessive caffine in coffee could be responsible for the extra heart beat. Therefore coffee intake should be 1-2 cups daily only. Atorvastatin is a drug used primarily for lowering blood cholesterol & thereby reducing the risk of coronary heat disease. It has no role in producing extra heart beat or Ectopic beats. Normally in heart a tissue known as SA node produces a beat. An extra or ectopic beat is produced when purkinji fibre in heart start producing an extra beat. They normally occur with no known cause. However they may also occur due to electrolyte imbalance, which needs to be checked in your case.
