Do Numbness In The Mouth, Stuffy Nose, Breathing Difficulty And Facial Swelling Need Medical Attention?

I was at my office when I started feeling a burning on the left side of my lip.. like the beginning of a cold sore. But then the left side of my mouth began to feel numb, then my lips felt like they were swelling and now my nose is so stuffed I cant breath. having difficulty talking due to a slightly swollen tongue and my face if noticeably swollen. I have taken 2 benadryl about 1 1/2 hours ago.

Hi,

All your symptoms are pointing towards a severe onset of allergic reaction and can be most probably to something you ate that has caused a reaction.

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room or an Allergist and get evaluated and an Allergy test can be done for confirmation.

You can be given a steroid shot to reduce the symptoms faster and along with it oral anti-allergy medications shall be advised, but as the swelling of the tongue can even choke your throat and cause difficulty in breathing and swallowing it needs immediate medical attention.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora,
