Do Cholesterol Medicines Cause Itchy Rashes?

My husband has been on cholesterol med for four years. He has been suffering from a fine rash along with itching. He has had every kind of alergy test and several doctors with no results. I have read cholesterol meds sometime cause rash and hives. If that be the case how long would it take the meds to clear his system if he stopped taking it?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Drugs lowering cholesterol can cause rashes and itching sensation of the skin.
But this medication should be taken lifelong.
Only thing what could be done is to check his fasting lipid profile regularly and see its control and then reduce the dose of medication.
In case the symptoms continue with this medication, then alternate drug can be used instead of this one.
Kindly consult Physician in this regard for proper assessment and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
