Do Blood Pressure And Cholesterol Medicines Cause Itching On The Body?

I have extremely itchy skin, particularly on my trunk and up my neck towards my ears. Also skin somewhat hot. Have tried heavily moisturizing and now cortisone, but wondering if it’s symptom of something else. I don’t think it’s environmental, I.e. contact dermatitis, insects, etc. Could it be medication related? Take blood pressure and cholesterol meds, as well as folic acid, vit d, calcium plus thyroid medication. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You seem to be an atopic individual. Atopy refers to the genetic tendency to develop allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis (eczema) etc. You haven't mentioned the drugs you are taking for hypertension and high cholesterol. Folic acid, vitamin D, calcium supplementation and thyroid hormone do not produce pruritus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
