Do Anti-thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies Help In The Treatment Of Thyroid Dysfunction?

hello I am waiting for my blood test results to come back on Monday. I have been taking levothyroxine for long time but in the past year have new doctor who has changed my medication 4 times in less than a year. I used to take the 150 dosage and since then have taken 137 then 125 then 112 and then just recently 100. I have felt lousy since and when I asked for the lab reports it showed I was low thyroid TSH and she said that she had to lower it because it was high and I was getting too much medicine to cause it. I decided to get new dr. an endocrinologist this week and she said that she is getting a anti-thyroid peroxidase or anti TPO and FT4 and TSH. I wondered if there is anything I need to know to ask about when I talk to her again?

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. The test that she advised , anti-thyroid peroxidase is done for to confirm diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyrooditis in which you can have both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid state. She may want to rule this condition as this may sometime cause hyperthyroid and some time hypo. May be thats why you have frequently drugs changing.
Hope i answered your question. Feel free to ask if you need further assistance. Thanks.
