Do All Calcium Channel Blockers Cause Dry Cough?

Because I just had a blood test that puts me at diabetic threshold, I asked Dr. to change me from beta blocker to calcium channel blocker. She put me on Norvasc this week. I am now experiencing an annoying dry cough. My question is, do you think I will find this to be the case with all calcium channel blockers?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Not typically. That is most associated with another blood pressure medicine type -- ACE inhibitors. These have as a side-effect increasing one chemical that causes inflammation including dry cough.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Matt Wachsman
