Do Cortisone Shots Cause A Blood Clot In The Brain?

My fiancé has been receiving monthly cortisone injections in his scalp for alopecia areata. It has been effective. He recently had the flu, in bed for about 8days.He kept his appt. for the injections which was just as he was recovering. He ended up with a large blood clot in a major artery on the right side of his brain which left him with significant impairment.Do you think there was an association. He maintains that there is.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your opinion is right some steroids known as glucocorticosterouds have the side effect of blood clotting. May the accident your friend had is due to that.
He needs further assistance of a neurologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
