Diagnosed With Paratyphoid. Can You Explain The Widal Test Results?

Hello Dr, I had been diagonsed with paratypoid on 15th May and was on antibiotics - Taxim O F for 7 days until 22nd May. My last test was done on 15th when widal slide agglutation test results showed positive for O (1 in 80 diln), positive for H ( 1 in 40 diln), positive for AH (1 in 320 diln) and negative for BH ( 1 in 20 diln). I did another test on 24th May with positive for O (1 in 80 diln), negative for H ( 1 in 20 diln), positive for AH (1 in 320 diln) and negative for BH ( 1 in 20 diln). values respectively. . What is the significance of the results? Do I still have paratyphoid? Should I restart my medication?

Hi
A warm welcome to HCM.
No you don't have Paratyphoid fever any more.
You do not need to restart antibiotics as you have completed a 10 days course and deffervescence has already occured. Widal test is not a very specific test as it does not detect the antigen. It measures the antibody level, in other words the response of body immune system to the agent, Salmonella.

Don't worry.
All the best.
