Diagnosed With Alzheimer S. On Namenda. Is Willingness To Relocate A Good Sign?

My mother has been diagnosed with mild to severe Alzheimer's. She just turned 96. The dr. put her on Namenda and it is working for her. She still sleeps upstairs and we are working on getting her bed downstairs. She is now always saying she wants her old room back. Is this a good sign that she is willing to relocate to the downstairs?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disease, with worsening of dementia despite treatment. It is good to note that your mother is doing reasonably well while on treatment.

It has been noted that patients with dementia do not like frequent changes in the place where they live or in their routine life. They tend to get confused when their place of sleep or residence is changed. So, it is a good idea to relocate her to her usual room.

Also, it is important that she is kept engaged in some household chores. She should also be made to interact with other family members and friends.

I hope it helps.
Best wishes,
