Dear Doctor,
I have a 5 week old male infant. Delivered full term. No complications at birth. I started him on breastfeeding exclusively however my milk is not sufficient enough for him by 3rd week so I feed my baby boy with breastmilk first then S26 Gold after breastfeeding. After a week on S26 Gold, I noticed he became gassy, irritable& passed out blood streaked stools, his stool consistency is still the same - mushy (not watery nor not constipated), stool color is yellow, & he passes stools after every feeding (approximately 6x in 24 hours) with good urine output. I also had his stools sent to the lab but it yielded normal results with no signs of infection with the exception of presence pf occult blood. With that said, I shifted his milk formula to NAN Sensitive. He became less gassy, blood streaks in stools resolved, and he became less irritable. My concern now is that he only passes out gas (farts al lot) and passes out stools (still mushy in character and color green this time) once in 24-36 hours only. My questions are as follows:
1) Is this normal for lactose free milk formulas?
2) Should I shift my baby's current milk formula of Nan Sensitive to another lactose free milk formula?
3) If shifting from 1 milk formula to another, is it alright if it is from different manufacturer, example: I shifted from Wyeth to Nestle etc? Or is it safer to stick with just 1 manufacturer example: i first started with Wyeth, so should I stick with lactose free wyeth milk formula like S26 Comfort?
Thank you for accommodation my concerns.
Sincerely,
First time mom 2016
