Dark Blood In Urine. What Could Be This?

My grandfather recently had a colostomy bag hooked up as a result of a UTI. Recently there has been dark blood in his urine. He wants to wait until the end of this week for his doctor's appointment before he does anything about this. As far as I know this is the only symptom he has, as he is a difficult old man. Is this something he should be waiting to do something about. I am assuming that some blood is to be expected -thanks.
