Could Stitch Marks Fade With Time?

Hi, I had a raised mole with hair growth removed under my chin. It was excised and then quarterised I think as I could smell burning and I had 5 stitches. I was asked to go back after 10 days to have the stitches removed but the appointment I was given for stitch removal was actually 11 days following the surgery. It is now two days since the stitches were removed and I have noticed visible stitch marks which I was told would fade and I would just be left with a line being the scar itself. I'm not convinced the stitch marks will fade. Is it likely these will be permanent as well as the scar? Many thanks
