Could Stabbing Pain In Left Side Of Chest Be Due To Panic Attack?
I have been having on again off agin pain in my chest on the left side. It tends to be a stabbing or burning type of pain. It lasts only a few seconds then goes away. I first felt it 3-4 years ago and was told it was a panic attack. But recently it has become more frequent, almost every day and sometime a couple times a day. Sould I be concerned? I have told my doctor and he says since I don t have any risk factors, I shouldn t be worried. Could it be panic attacks or something worse?

Stabbing and burning pains in the chest region could be due to some organic cause or it could be due to panic attack.
Have you taken treatment of panic attack which was diagnosed few years back? If not then you need to consult a psychiatrist for clinical assessment and find out the cause of current symptoms.
If the symptoms are due to panic attack then you need to take treatment for it.
If there is no evidence of panic attack then other cause for the symptoms has to be found out.
Stabbing and burning type of pain in chest region can be due to involvement of pleura (pleura is covering of the lungs) by various disease processes.
Infection, inflammation of the pleura can lead to such pain.
A X-ray chest is required initially and further mode of action will be decided by findings on X-ray chest.
Thus, consult a psychiatrist initially followed by a chest specialist if no psychiatric illness is detected.
