Could Sleepiness Be Due To Hydrochlorothiazide And Levothyroxine?

I started taking hydrochlorothiazide 25 yesterday to treat HBP and edema along with Levothyroxine 50. the side effect was that it made me so sleepy I went back to bed and slept 2 hours woke up for an hour and back to sleep for 2 more. Took my Oxycodone 5 about 5:00 pm. Awake until about 1:00 am. took other meds (Methocarbamol 500mg--Gabapentin 300mg--Hydroxyzine25mg) as I am prescribed .Slept . Woke up this morning about 9:00am took HCTZ and Levo and same thing happened . Should I split the pill? I have to work and cannot be sleeping on the job tomorrow.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Hydrochlorothiazide and :evothyroxine is not responsible for the excess of sleep in your case, as there is no documented side effect of insomnia from either of them. The culprit is the Hydroxyzine (25 mg) which acts as an antihistamine with sedative properties. Kindly stop consuming further doses of Hydroxyzine and you will be fine at your work place without sleep episodes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
