Could Scabbing Be The Healing Process While On Treatment For Impetigo ?

Hello, i was diagnosed with impetigo last week on Wednesday. I was given a cream and some pills to take. it ha been a week now. The infection looks a lot better but now it is scabbing. Is this just a healing process? Do i need to continue using the ointment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Scabbing is part of the healing process. Usually the scab should be let untouched because it can slow down the healing. Meanwhile, I suggest to continue applying the ointment maintain the area clean.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
