Could Regular Heart Check Ups Save Life Of A Person?

Good Evening, My father had open heart surgery in New York and wen into cardiac arrest twice during the surgery. He didn t make it. He had a history of smoking but stopped smoking years ago. If he had gone for heart screening a year or two ago, could the problem have been solved? He was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment only after he began feeling pains months ago and the Doctor said his heart was already half dead. Could he have been saved through regular check ups?

Hi..Thanks for using healthcaremagic
It is ideal to do regular check ups..Your doctor will asses the effort tolerance by asking some simple questions. He will also take routine ECG also.If he feels further investigation is required will ask for ECHO cardiogram and TMT or stress ECHO.If some abnormality is there Cardiac CT scan or Coronary angiogram will be advised.According to the condition further plan will be decided.By doing these things we will be able plan the proceedings.
Some patients won't have any symptoms like chest pain (especially diabetic patients).Hence they won't go for check ups.More over smokers are at increased risk of Heart problems because of increased clot formation inside the blood vessels.Hence it is always advisable to go for routine check ups.
thank you
