Could Oozing Of Pus From Mole On Cheek Be Harmful?

Hi, im 32, male, I have always had a mole on my cheek. I recently shaved over it with a clean sharp razor but a normally only use clipppers. i didnt cut or nickt it, but I now have what seems to be a massive zit coming through the mole. I just squeezed a bit of puss out, exactly like a large zit but from the centre if the mole. Should I be worried?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of oozing of pus from mole on cheek which seems like you have developed pustule in that area which is something you should be very careful about.

I would suggest you to keep the area clean and dry as much as possible. Don't apply any kind of moisturizing creams/lotions over the affected area. Clean the area with lukewarm water twice a day and apply an antibiotic cream like mupirocin gel over the area twice daily. 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily for a week can be applied topically for faster relief.

Don't manipulate or squeeze as this may push the infection into the surrounding tissues. Don't apply any type of steroids on face as it will cause darkening of skin in that case.

If in-spite of the above measures, the lesion persists or continues to increase in size, then you might need a course of oral antibiotics along with pain killers.

If condition keeps on persisting visit dermatologist once and go for biopsy of lesion to rule out any malignancy and start treatment after proper examination microscopic and histopathological.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
