Could Having Oral Sex With Open Cuts In Mouth Cause Infection?

So me and my boyfriend of 9 months, first proper relationship and both virgins- I recently had my braces removed and have swollen gums and after brushing they open up, so in theory I have a cut in my mouth. I gave my boyfriend oral sex without a condom but he didn t ejaculate- could I have an infection?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If both of you are virgins & he is not having any sexually transmitted diseases, you shouldn't get infected with STD. Since you are presently experiencing swollen gums after removal of braces, you are suggested to get it clinically examined by a dentist. Side effects often results in jaw pain, tooth decay, decalcification, mild discomfort, irritation, allergic reactions, etc. Get it treated.

In the meantime, you can rinse your mouth and gargle your throat with salt water or Listerine water/Hexidine mouth wash, etc. You should always perform safe sex, if cuts are there in your mouth & your partner infected with STD, you may get infected too. Always make your partner use condoms. Get STD tests done( both partners), this is to stay on the safer side.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
