Could Being Exposed To Battery Acid In Pregnancy Affect The Fetus?

U was exposed to battery acid today from 2 different baby swings. I am 35 weeks pregnant. After I touched the batteries I did not immediately was my hands as I got distracted by the mail running. I washed them after, but then I had to clean the battery acid from around the compartment the batteries were in. It took quite awhile. I didn t have any gloves. This isn t going to harm the baby is it?

Hi.
I read your query carefully & understand your concern.
Battery acid contains sulphuric acid, & exposure to battery acid fumes has a bad effect on upper respiratory tract.
I was happy to note that you don't give history of inhaling fumes of the acid, if you don't have any respiratory complaints you need not worry , but if you have please seek urgent medical aid,you will be taken care of when informed about the incidence.
It seems it was only skin contact ,which may have skin reaction due to acid- (in case it is a new battery- ) It needs a proper nutralization & dressing of the wound if any.
Battery acid does not have any direct effect on growing fetus so be relaxed!
Thanks,
