I had surgery two days ago to remove my gallbladder. I was nervous before surgery, but woke up in the recovery room happy that it was all over. I drank some sprite and ate some crackers, but about 10 minutes later, I had a sudden headache and pain in my left shoulder. I lost the use of my left arm, left leg and had trouble speaking. The doctor was called and said it appeared to be effort dependant when describing trying to get me to move my left arm or leg. Anyhow I knew all that was going on, but I could not make my body do what they were asking like moving my left arm, and when answering questions I could only get one or two words out. I was evaluated for a possible stroke; my blood pressure went high during this as well. After about 5 hours everything slowly returned to normal. I was discharged and told it was either anxiety related or related to a reaction to the medication. Just prior to the headache hitting I think I remember getting given some medication in my IV. I am not an overly anxious person and never been treated for it. My question is what is the most likely cause of these symptoms? possible TIA, reaction to the medication, or anxiety?
