Could Absence Of Heartbeat In Foetus Lead To Miscarriage?

I went to my first OB visit for my first Ultrasound. They told me I was measuring 8weels and 3days which is where I should be exactly on the dot. They said no heartbeat. They did a vaginal ultrasound, so they said there should definitely be a heartbeat. They told me I have a tilted uterus, not sure if this matters any. But they said the fact that they could not see or hear a heartbeat meant my baby had died, either that day or the night before, since I was measuring exactly where should be. I went to the ER the following day and was told the same thing. I have a follow up appointment on exactly one week from the date of my last appointment, where I should be 9weeks and 3 days, is there any chance they were wrong, and maybe my baby is developing slower that it should, and I might have a chance to hear a heartbeat? They pretty much told me to expect to miscarry within the next couple of weeks.
