Constipation in 5 Months old baby, can carmicide help ?

HI, My baby is 5 months old now. I have already started giving him semi solid food. He is crying a lot when he wants to pass the stool. but he is not able to pass it. i gave him carmicide so that he dont have pain....what can i do ?
