Can Trouble While Sleeping Be Caused By High TSH Levels?

Hi Doc, Im 39 year old female. My TCH level is 14.4 and I take Euthyrox 75 mcg. But I don t take it regularly. My fasting sugar is 90. For a month now, I m unable to sleep for some unknown fear. The minute I close my eyes, I get scared and open my eyes. I panic to sleep. This has become a huge issue. I don t want to take sedatives as I panic when I m sliping into sleep. I have tried everything from yoga, meditation Is this sleep disorder linked to my Thyroid? What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I have gone through the problem described in your query, I am sorry to know about your inability to fall sleep and frequent awakening after a short spells of sleep.

It seems to me that the sleep disturbances are apparently caused by inadequate treatment with Euthyrox.

Since your TSH is High (14.4) you need an extra dose of Euthyrox to maintain the normal range of TSH between 0.4 - 4 units, may be it is around 100 mcg/day.

I would therefore advise you to consult your treating doctor to increase the dose of Euthyrox so as to prevent the sleep disturbances.

Hope I could answer your query.

A feedback is appreciated.
