Can The Smell Of Burnt Plastic Cause Any Harm To The Infant?

I had a mini fire in my house last night, where my fuse box set itself alight, I inhaled a lot of the burning plastic toxic smoke trying to put out the fire.
Eventually I got it sorted but the smell is still there and I've now developed a horrible cough - im 12 weeks 5 days, will this harm my baby?
Do I go and get looked at?

Hello and welcome to HCM forum

I understand your concern since it is a known fact that Tar is a carcinogen .But Tar can affect you or your baby if the exposure to fumes has been massive like in cases of big fires and if it has been prolonged like for years .

So practically speaking there is a very slim chance of harm to the baby but in case you are allergic to the fumes you might youself develop cough and breathlessness .

So by all means please gets yourself examined by a doctor and get medicines for your cough . A colour doppler Ultrasound of the baby can be done to rule out any anomalies or any reduction in the blood flow .

Hope this helps , take care both of you .
