Can Swelling And Numbness In Toes Be Normal After Getting Pierced By Glass?

Hi I stepped on a piece of glass and it went in about a little more than half an inch and when I pulled it out blood started gushing for about 3 minutes and then stopped. Now I m having some pain when I walk and swelling and numbness on that area and on my toes. Is this normal? Please help!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to local inflammation. There is a chance for infection and antibiotics have to be stated preferably amoxiclav.

Daily clean with soap and water and apply topical antibiotics like mupirocin. If there is pain, over the counter available analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac can be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
