Can Smoked Salmon Cause Swollen Eyes?

My 12-year-old son eats a lot of smoked salmon. He has a swollen and painful toe and his eyelid was swollen and puffy this morning. His eye was not red or irritated. It almost looked like a hive, but it was only on his eye. Could he have gout? Could the salmon be the culprit?

Hi There

Swelling and inflammation are the most common symptoms of seafood allergies. Seafood allergies are an exaggragated immune system reaction to the protein found in various types of fishes.

Inflammation due to seafood allergy can cause joint inflammation and is reason for toe swelling and pain in your son's case.
inhaling steam from smoked salmon fish your son got swollen eyes.

Preventing cause is best treatment for your son. He should either avoid eating fishes or get some tests done for specific types.

Good Luck
