Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Skydiving Be Performed If Suffering From Interventricular Septal Defect?
I have a 3mm interventricular septal defect. I have no restrictions because of it. I have, however, had periods of chest pain when I'm stressed and get light headed spells sometimes. My average sitting blood pressure is 15-115 / 60-66. I'm a 25 year old female in good shape. The question: am I physically okay to skydive? (Emotionally is a whole separate issue.)
Dear Madam Thanks for your query. Normally a 3 mm VSD is considered to be small VSD and no consequences are expected out of it. It is considered hemodynamically insignificant. Such VSDs are not likely to cause any interference in physical activity. However It is highly advisable to take a clearance from your physician for any activity which is likely to impose significant physical stress. sincerely Sukhvinder
