Can Severe Leg Pain, High Sugar And BP Cause Blood Clots?

I work standing up all day as a pharmacist. I ve had severe pain in my right foot for several days during work, so today after work I took off my socks (compression because I have diabetes) and the blood vessels in my right foot between my big toe and ankle were really swollen and hurting. I took my blood pressure & it was 134/90. I m worried about blood clots because my mother almost lost her leg with the same symptoms. My blood sugar has been over 200 all day today.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Uncontrolled diabetes is strongly associated with swollen and painful feet. Sometimes it is the first indication of having diabetes out of control. The situation should not be ignored.

I advise you to visit your physician or endocrinologist for physical examination and controlling diabetes by changing doses of current medicines or switching to other anti-diabetic medications. Your blood pressure needs to be controlled, too.

Uncontrolled diabetes is a usual cause of eye, kidney and blood vessels problems that leads to comolications in future so do take care regarding control of diabetes.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
