I seem to have palpitaions. I get feelings of a racing heart and sometimes sensations on my outer left arm. It seems sometimes to flutter or skip a beat and I have felt my pulse beating very hard in my neck before. It scares me. I once had palpitations when pregnant but now I get them 3yrs on. I notice I do get it after eating or when sitting realaxing. I dont really notice at other times. I dont eat meat touch alcohol, drugs or smoke. Ive also cut out coffee, fizzy juice and am trying to eat more fruit. A lot of family on my mothers side had heart disease but none on my dads. Im really worried.
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns.
No, palpitations do not always indicates heart problems. Sometimes it can be due to stress, excitement, exercise or hormonal changes. But it is very important to rule out heart disease because it can be a sign of heart disease..
My advice to you is -
1. Go for holter monitoring - it is a 24 hrs ecg monitoring of a person which he can do at home. This will give a final conclusion to you is your palpitations significant or not. Then only your doctor can give you treatment.
2.Untill then if you feel palpitations then just lie down and calm down. It will subsided by itself. Don't become anxious or do physical exertion at the time of palpitations. . So, consult you doctor and ask for holter Monitoring. You will get your answer. Have a nice day. Thank you.
