Can Pain And Anxiety Medications Cause Positive Result For Oxymorphone In Urine Test?

My son's urine test was positive for oxycodone & oxymorphone. He does take oxycodone+Tylenol for pain as he has had 3 knee operations & 2 shoulder operations & a burst burcities in his hip. He suffers from PTSD so also takes medication for anxiety & sleep such as Trmadol. He has never aken oxymorphone to his knwledge. Can this be a false positive due to the other drugs he is taking?

I can understand your concern. Oxycodone, oxymorphone both are opioid medicines. In most of drug tests they use drug strips which detects opioids present in urine or blood. He has been taking Oxycodone and also tremadol for pain and anxiety and both these drugs can result in false positive test for Oxymorphone. These tests are sensitive tests but are not specific tests. So in my opinion if he was taking Oxycodone and tremadol as per prescription then you can appeal for the test and can explain to them that he was taking drugs as per prescription. It is common to see false positive results with these drugs.
